Serious pose

Saturday, April 29, 2006 by Dawn B
Althea's report says she "smiles constantly" but the camera catches her in a serious moment here. Maybe this is a good time to mention that Hunan is the home province of Chairman Mao, who enjoyed the "smelly tofu" dish that is still a Hunanese specialty. Something for Andrew to try when we get there... This pose also offers a better view of the "kung fu" booties she also wears in the other photo.

Here she is!

Our daughter Althea JinXiang Burnett, looking (as promised) very cute! This photo is from January when she was 4 months old. Her profile tells us she has an active disposition with quick reactions (if you look closely, she's wearing "kung fu" booties, so we have been warned) but is also a good overnight sleeper. She likes listening to music and her favorite toy is a bell. Her favorite activity is "being held in arms." We'll be happy to help with that!

What's in a name?

OK--now we have the info packet from China, and the first item of business is: getting our daughter's Chinese name right. We had some confusion getting it over the phone. Her name is Jin Xiang [Jin1 Xiang1 in Pinyin]. Jin is gold and Xiang is fragrance or incense. A beautiful name for our beautiful girl! Stay tuned for pictures in the next hour or so...

It's a girl!

Thursday, April 27, 2006 by Dawn B
At 4:23 pm on April 27th we finally got the call from our social worker--we have a match!
Zhao Jin Xiang was born September 5 in Hunan Province, home of spicy food and firecrackers. We expect to get a packet on Saturday with more info and a picture--which we will post here. What we know so far is she is "healthy and very cute, with a little bit of hair."
No specific travel dates yet but it looks like approximately late June.
Hooray!
God is good.
