Dorothy Sayers, one of my favorite theologians, says that when Jesus said we must become like little children, he did not mean we should stay children, but look forward eagerly to growing more and more: "All normal children (however much we discourage them) look forward to growing up. 'Except as ye become as little children,' except you can wake up on your fiftieth birthday with the same forward-looking excitement and interest in life you had when you were five, 'ye cannot see the Kingdom of God.'"
Althea demonstrates this forward-looking excitement every day, wanting SO much to do whatever her Baba and Mama, or bigger kids do.
One of her abiding quests in life is to drink coffee!
Every morning, she watches both her parents drink this beverage, with considerable satisfaction--it's only natural she should want to get in on some. The other day, for the sake of peace, I brought her a travel mug (empty of course).
It satisfied her for that morning, but probably won't work for long.
Actually, it will now be rare that we will all get to drink coffee and hang around in bed--it's back to work for Mama and Baba tomorrow. Sigh.
