Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!
It's Fairy Princess Althea here.

Perhaps you've been asking yourself, just what would the Burnett family look like if Althea got to pick the Halloween dress-up theme?
Well, here's your answer!

I was out shopping with daddy a few weeks ago when this little number crossed my path--sort of a sugar plum fairy look. Love the wand! (Mommy insists that I say funny words and just wave it in the air--seems much more functional as a tool for bonking things and people--oops, sorry mommy.)

Mommy had some fun with the whole "fairy" theme. Daddy found her a woodland fairy costume. I really liked the wings best. I have wings too, but mine aren't as big.

Here I am discovering the other super-fun thing about this weird night--candy! Kids come to our door looking really strange and sometimes scary. They look surprised to see all of us dressed up too. First they say the magic words (NOT "please" like I expected but "trick or treat"), and then they have to tell us what they are dressed up as, then mommy or daddy gives them candy. But I got some too!

The kids looked especially surprised when daddy came to the door. I can't imagine why.

He and I had lots of fun blowing on his pan flute and building Lego towers as we waited for more trick or treaters.

Here's our latest family portrait--go fig.

Well friends, time for me to fly off. Mommy says I need to find "a rose petal filled with dew for my evening ablutions." I thought I was just going to take a bath and head for bed.

Gotta love a night that's all about dressing up in costumes and eating candy!
Happy Halloween!

Close Encounters of an Alphabetic Kind?

Sunday, October 21, 2007 by Dawn B
O.k. this is kind of weird. You sing the alphabet with your kiddo, you play with letters and read books . . .
But what does it mean when your daughter just randomly repeats the same four letters?
It started the other day in the car. I heard a little voice behind me chanting "C D H Y . . . C D H Y . . .C D"
Then, later that night, the same thing. Hmmm. . .
The next morning at breakfast, she started it again, grinning the grin pictured at left: "C D H Y . . . C D H Y."
Are aliens trying to communicate through our daughter?
And just what is their message?
You better know we'll be watching to see if she starts playing with her mashed potatoes--sculpting funky mountain shapes and staring at them intently.

Two!

"Watch Me!"

That's one of my favorite phrases now. I'm two! And that gives me official license to run around like a crazy woman (although mommy seems to think I only have a learner's permit).

Here I am on the day of my second birthday. We went out to eat with some friends, then on the the traditional birthday jump from the giant stethoscope. America! What a kooky country!

Then I went for a ride on the little carousel. The fine print nearby says that my parents should be supervising me while I'm on this ride. For crying out loud, I'm two already!

A few days later, we had a bigger party at the park with a BIG cake--complete with lots of frosting and a dancing Dora. Dancing with a monkey? Sounds like fun to me!

Thanks to everyone for the cards and gifts and birthday hoopla. May your spirit always jump from a stethoscope and your heart always dance with the monkeys!
